Disney Hunchback of Notre Dame Esmeralda Piggy Bank. This bank features Esmeralda sitting on top of a brown barrel holding her pet goat, Djali. About 9 1/4″ high. Plastic. Good Condition.

Esmeralda is one of the main stars of Disney’s 1996 film, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and a secondary character of its sequel. She is streetwise and brave, a gypsy with a heart of gold. She is one of the first and few people in both films to befriend the deformed but lovable hunchback Quasimodo. Esmeralda’s greatest wish is to see outcasts like Quasimodo and her fellow gypsies be accepted into society and be treated as people. She is a wonderful heroine who is not only beautiful, but is also fearless, kind, and passionate.

7″ space shuttle bank

The Space Shuttle was a launch system and orbital spacecraft operated by the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) for human spaceflight missions from 1981 to 2011. The system combined rocket launch, orbital spacecraft, and re-entry spaceplane with modular add-ons. The first of four orbital test flights occurred in 1981 leading to operational flights beginning in 1982, all launched from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The system was retired from service in 2011 after 135 missions on July 8, 2011, with Space Shuttle Atlantis performing that 135th launch – the final launch of the three-decade Shuttle program. The program ended after Atlantis landed at the Kennedy Space Center on July 21, 2011.

This piggy bank with a bread head is ceramic and is dressed in a cape like a superhero. It stands approximately 6 inches tall x 4.25 inches wide. There must be a story here, but we don’t know what it is. If anyone else knows where this bank came from, please drop us an email and let us know.

UPDATE: I think this character is Anpanman, an anime character in stories written by Takashi Yanase, a Japanese writer of children’s stories. Anpanman is one of the most popular anime cartoon series in Japan. Anpanman is the hero of the story, whose head is a bun made by Jam Ojisan. His name comes from the fact that he is a man with a head made of bread (Japanese: pan) that is filled with bean jam (Japanese: an) called an anpan. His weakness is water or anything that makes his head dirty. He regains his health and strength when Jam Ojisan bakes him a new head and is placed on his shoulders. Anpanman’s damaged head, with Xs in his eyes, flies off his shoulders once a new baked head lands. He was created when a shooting star landed in Jam Ojisan’s oven while he was baking. He has two special attacks called: An-punch and An-kick. When Anpanman comes across a starving creature or person, he lets the unfortunate creature or person eat part of his head.

UPDATE: Maybe not! I found some pics of Anpanman and they didn’t look like this. But this bank is marked “c. YANASE BTN” so it must have something to do with this series. Can anyone help with this?

UPDATE: It’s Shoku-pan Man (Sliced Bread Man), a superhero friend of Anpan-man!.
