Gorham 1972 Limited Edition Commemorative Bicentennial Plate

Here is a beautiful 1976 bicentennial plate that was made by Gorham China in 1972 to celebrate the big event. It’s a gorgeous 10-5/8 in. diameter plate that has a cream background, beautiful blue pictures, and thick gold trim in the words and at the edge. It shows tableaus of Mollie Pitcher at Monmouth, Washington Crossing the Delaware, Surrender of Yorktown, Boston Tea Party, Paul Revere’s Ride, and the Minutemen of Lexington. The back is printed in gold on the shiny glaze ivory background. This was a 1972 limited edition. Printed on the back of the plate: “IN TRIBUTE TO THE STRUGGLE FOR INDEPENDENCE OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA GORHAM est. 1831 FINE CHINA USA 1972-LIMITED NEW YORK EDITION COMMEMORATING THE BICENTENNIAL YEARS.”

Memories of Santa Ornament 1860

From the Memories of Santa Ornament Collection. This ornament is the circa 1860 Father Christmas with a Wild Turkey. Introduced 1995.

The Memories of Santa Collection are authentic reproductions from antique chocolate molds, early chromo-lithographs, and turn-of-the-century post cards. These beautiful replicas depict the evolution of Santa Claus from the early St. Nicholas to the Santa we know today. Although his garments changed from decade to decade and his name varied from country to country, the generosity and spirit of old St. Nicholas survived through the ages until he became the gift-giving Jolly Old Santa Claus of our time.

The Memories of Santa Collection are authentic reproductions of antique chocolate molds, early chromo-lithographs, and turn-of-the-century post cards. These beautiful replicas depict the evolution of Santa Claus from the early St. Nicholas to the Santa we know today.

Although his garments changed from decade to decade and his name varied from country to country, the generosity and spirit of old St. Nicholas survived through the ages until he became the gift-giving Jolly Old Santa Claus of our time.
Each figure in the Collection is made of earthenware, one of the oldest materials used to make ceramics. The earthenware is created using a mixture of koalin, quartz, and feldspar and is then fired at over 2000 degrees Fahrenheit. Each piece is then individually hand painted, and given a stain wash to highlight the fine details of each Santa. The designs and the background of each Santa has been carefully researched and historically documented by the late Don Warning.

Regretably, after the passing of Mr. Warning, the production of new Santas ceased. As this collection is becoming more and more collectible, the value of each Santa increases. The Memories of Santa Collection has 139 Santas. The collection was produced from 1983 to 2002. Each year 4 new Santas were added to the line and 4 Santas were retired. The Santas represented different countries at various periods of time. They measure approximately 5″ tall and 2″ wide. Each Santa came in a gold box with a plastic outer cover so that you could view the Santa from outside the box. The Santas can stand alone or hang with the gold-tone string that is included.

Pink Flamingos
The pink flamingo is one of those objects that people either love or hate. If you are one of the many who thought this emblem of cheesiness was dead, think again! Considered by some to be a tacky eye sore and by others to be a retro cool work of art, the plastic icon of the front lawn is alive and well.
From the late ‘50s through the ‘70s, plastic pink flamingos adorned front lawns all over America, but the ‘60s brought a rebellion against everything man made and by the end of the ‘70s, the pink flamingo had become a symbol of bad taste and it looked like its days were numbered.
