Big Boy is the mascot for a chain of casual dining restaurants with its headquarters in Warren, Michigan. The chain is best known for its trademark chubby boy in red-and white-checked overalls holding a Big Boy sandwich (double-decker cheeseburger). The inspiration for Big Boy’s name, as well as the model for its mascot, was Richard Woodruff of Glendale, California. When he was six years old, he walked into the diner, Bob’s Pantry, as Bob Wian was attempting to name his new hamburger. Wian said, “Hello, Big Boy” to Woodruff, and the name stuck. Warner Bros. animation artist Ben Washam sketched Richard’s caricature, which became the character seen on the company logo. Big Boy statues often stood in front of or on top of Big Boy Restaurants. The restaurant specialized in good hamburgers and french fries.

Yogi Bear is a fictional animated cartoon bear created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera. He first appeared in 1958 as a supporting character in The Huckleberry Hound Show. In January 1961, he was featured in his own show, “The Yogi Bear Show”. Yogi and his best friend, Boo-Boo Bear, would frequently try to steal picnic baskets from campers in the fictional Jellystone Park, while trying to avoid being caught by Park Ranger Smith. Yogi had a girlfriend, Cindy Bear, who sometimes appeared on the show and disapproved of his antics. Yogi was a loveable, but conniving, rule-breaking bear with an obsession for picnic baskets who thinks he can get away with his antics because he’s “smarter than the average bear.” Available at Forever Piggy Banks. $29.95
